The
Baltimore Urban Leadership Foundation, Inc., also known as The Door, has been serving as an "Umbrella of Hope"
in historic East Baltimore for over 23 years. As
a faith-based community development organization, The Door
endeavors to achieve its mission to facilitate transformation
and holistic growth of youth, families, and communities through
collaborative partnerships, direct service, capacity-building,
and resource development.
The
Door is engaged in faith-based outreach that is Christ-centered
and community-focused. Our doors are open six days a week
for the fulfillment of our mission. We encourage and assist
churches, faith-based and community organizations in East
Baltimore to develop programs and ministries of "good works"
that directly address the needs of the local neighborhood.
One of our key roles is equipping and building the capacity
of the local church to fulfill this community role.
We
are engaged in community work that is developmental. We believe
that when the relationship is developmental, both the giver
and the receiver are changed through their involvement with
one another and the outcome is long term and generational.
The Door's relational activities include educational enrichment,
youth and community leadership development, emergency food
relief, affordable housing programs, and job and life skills
training within a Christian context.
The
Door is an accredited member of the Leadership Foundations of America,
a national network of local faith-based organizations
that mobilize leaders to tackle their cities' biggest challenges.
